We all know that college can be expensive! Fortunately, there are a number of scholarships available specifically for childhood cancer survivors.

In addition, we offer our own scholarship at the Children’s Cancer Cause, the College Scholars Program. We encourage you to take full advantage of these opportunities!

Where to find scholarships for survivors:

Children’s Cancer Cause awards academic scholarships to childhood cancer survivors who demonstrate a commitment to cancer advocacy. These survivors receive a financial scholarship to help with academic expenses and gain valuable cancer advocacy experience. Visit here to find out if we are currently accepting applications.

The Beyond the Cure Ambassador Scholarship Program awards 58 scholarships each academic year to help childhood cancer survivors achieve their academic and professional goals.

Cancer for College awards over 100 scholarships every year to cancer survivors, with an application period that runs from Nov 1 - Jan 31st.

This list is by no means comprehensive. St. Jude’s ‘Together’ online resource provides a good listing of many scholarships available to cancer survivors and also to students with various disabilities.

Consider these tips:

  • Get your paperwork in order: Many survivor-specific applications will request documentation that proves your cancer history. A letter from your doctor or some other documentation on hospital letterhead that includes the date of your diagnosis should suffice, but make sure you don’t wait until the last minute to request this documentation.

  • Ask someone to double check your application and essay for errors. A typo can take a top contender out of consideration!

  • Be diligent, honest, and punctual with your applications. Pay close attention to the little details and the deadlines.
